The Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2009 and plans are being made now to highlight and commemorate the Park’s cultural history, diverse natural resources, and a host of educational and recreational opportunities...
Raising a healthy vegan child is all it's
cracked up to be. Besides enjoying health benefits such as no allergies,
beautiful skin color, shiny hair and a good immune system, I've also noticed a
long attention span, quick learning abilities, even temperament, great muscle
tone and great balance in playing. I am constantly asked what's the secret and
more importantly how to get a child to eat healthier when their pattern is the
opposite.
Hardly a day goes by without
at least two people asking the same question...
"Hey,
Chuck, how are the Vols going to do this year?"
(It's
an interesting question because a Knoxville surgeon has been known to accept
friendly wagers on whether UT will have at least nine regular-season wins.)...
With today's world fuel prices steadily creeping upward, stay-cation seems to be the buzzword for more and more Americans this summer.
And if you’re searching your own backyard for a great family-friendly getaway,
consider taking a mini vacation right here in K-town at this year’s Tennessee
Valley Fair, September 5 through 14 at the Chilhowee Park fairgrounds. The
Fair is marking its 89th year with a lineup of shows and activities
that offer something for everyone while remaining true to the event’s Americana roots. The
10-day-long schedule is packed from start to finish with agricultural
exhibitions and competitions, live concerts and action sporting events, and
carnival-style rides for all ages, just to mention a few of the highlights...
I Hate to See That Evening Sun Go Down is a high profile independent feature film about Abner
Meecham, a crusty old man who flees the nursing facility in which his son has
convinced him to live and returns to his Tennessee
farm to live out his days in peace. Upon returning home, Abner discovers his
son has leased the farm to an old foe and his family, who plan to buy the farm
in a few weeks. This sets up a ruthless grudge match between Abner and Lonzo
Choat, the new tenant, each man rightly claiming the land as his own and each
refusing to leave. Finding no help from his son and haunted by recurring
visions of his dead wife, Abner resorts to his own methods of reclaiming his
life.
Loudon, TN is experiencing a rebirth as this
small town both embraces its past and moves on to its future. One of the keys to this is the Courthouse
Grant they recently received from the state.
Six of Tennessee's
county seats with smaller populations were selected to be part of this new
program with Loudon and Dayton
the two in East Tennessee. The program returns sales tax collected
within the downtown square for eight consecutive years. Loudon has received their first payment and
borrowed against the others to immediately begin transforming the community. In
the next few months, visitors and residents alike will be pleased at the
differences they find in the area surrounding Loudon's beautiful courthouse and
in nearby blocks...
