Tommy DoucetteHe's the father of two boys and the teacher you wish you'd had in high school. Tommy Doucette, Farragut High School gym teacher and coach, along with his wife, Dr. Margaret Lubert, have two boys, 17-year-old J. T. and 13-year-old Patrick.

In this part of the country where football is king, there are 10 coaches at Farragut and Doucette is the coach for linebackers. J.T. is one of the linebackers for the team.

Doucette has a rule that he uses with his sons and with his students. "I try to set an example for them in life. If you give kids respect, they respect you back." He can take teasing, though. Tommy Doucette is originally from Boston and that accent stands out here in East Tennessee. His students make fun of it and imitate him.

father and child June 15 is a special day this year for dads across America. On Father’s Day, they’re told how much they’re loved and thanked for what they do or did as fathers.

This special celebration isn’t as old as many of America’s events. It began almost 100 years ago in a city similar in size to Knoxville. Spokane, Washington, on the eastern side of the state, was the home of Sonora Smart Dodd. The sermon in church on Mother’s Day in 1909 made her think about her father, a man who had raised her and her five siblings after her mother had died in childbirth. Dodd wanted to let him know how much she appreciated the many sacrifices he had made for them.

The GreenbrierThe Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia is a destination in itself. With activities that include golf, a spa, a Culinary Arts Center, an Off-Road Driving School, swimming, mountain biking, trap and skeet shooting, kayaking, whitewater rafting and bowling, the Greenbrier can provide people of all ages and interests something to do.

These sulphur springs were found to have medicinal properties in the late 1700’s, drawing travelers to the area. In the 1800’s, a hotel and cottages were built and then in 1910, the property was bought by the C & O Railroad who constructed the central part of the hotel that exists today. World War II saw the property sold to the U.S. Army and it became Ashford General Hospital but, after the war, it was re-sold to C & O.
