Spring has arrived, school is over and the days are getting
warmer. But, unfortunately, that just means more work for us. Yes, that's
right, between the yard work, the kids being home all day, trying to hold on to
our jobs and gas prices soaring. It is important as adults and parents that
we find the time to enjoy ourselves whether it is as a family or as
couples. Knoxville has a wealth of resources that can help us do just that. Going
out for dinner to
our local eateries would most likely be your quickest form of
entertainment. What I would love to know as restaurateur is what is the
single most important thought that
goes into picking the restaurant of choice?
How many of us are lucky enough to have an Aunt Bea? I mean, Andy
of Mayberry had it pretty good. Life, as Andy, was quiet, peaceful and simple.
Saturdays were used for exploring and fishing with his son Opie. The focus for
dinner was eating together as well as talking about the day's affairs with no interruption from phone calls or
TV. Regular times were established for bed and community support was important.
I know that this was "make believe," but can you consider for a moment the
possibility of life as Andy?
What a gorgeous spring we
have had! The cool weather seemed to extend the season so that we didn't go
from winter to summer as so often happens in this area. The blooms on a few

plants that didn't make it, but those
that did seemed to be celebrating their survival. It seemed that every morning
there was something new to look at.
The national average is 2.5 kids. Many families make the leap to three, perhaps to avoid that tricky half-child. There are those who choose to have four, but really, they're moving toward the fringe of society. Five kids weren't uncommon several years ago, but today, that number pushes the capacity of standard homes and cars. When you get up to six or seven kids, you're in Brady Bunch and Waltons territory. Meet the Ray family. That's Angela and Terry-and their eight kids. Come June, it will be nine kids. And they don't even have a TV show. The children are Tara, 20; Tyler, 14...
It’s confession time. How many of you didn’t listen to me when I said not to plant annuals until after the 15th? How many of you had yards that looked like a ghost convention at Halloween with all the sheets and blankets draped over things?
Last week a friend and I went to a new restaurant in the Old City called The Crown and Goose, a good, old-style British tavern. We felt the electricity in the air; people always enjoy seeking out a new eatery, especially if it's good.
