The Bijou Theater began life about the same time Knoxville did. It
stands on land originally owned by James White, Knoxville’s founder. In
1801, Thomas Humes built a general store on the property. His store
became successful and he eventually owned the block...
October is one of my favorite months. The weather is cooler and the
colors are so beautiful. It is so much easier to do work out in the
yard when the temperature is in the 70s and not the 90s! Speaking
of work, there are lots of things that you can be doing now. Yes, some
of these things were on the list for last month, but it was still hot
last month and I KNOW some of you didn’t do them...
Nature is at its best in autumn. Tennessee has the best of many
things – one being our produce, which has made the top ten list. Check
out the local farmer’s market. “Think globally, act locally” has great
ramifications when shopping at local markets. This is a new time. A
time of carpooling, recycling, community sharing, park visiting, lake

not want not” is a great motto to adapt especially when considering
your food. You will not only benefit money wise but also health wise.
My teacher would often say that the most beneficial part of a plant is

August. Usually it is scorching this time of year, so those of us who make our
living outside are truly grateful. We have also gotten some much needed rain
this year, so hopefully most of your plants have survived and are starting to
look a little perkier...
The headlines from the twenty-three year
old newspapers are funny. “Retail centers drift further west on Kingston
Pike,” one reads. If they had only known! When it opened, twenty-two years
ago, the shops at Franklin Square were
trendsetters. Lovell Road
and Campbell Station were still two lane roads. Grigsby Chapel Road was not paved yet and
no one had ever heard of Hardin
Valley...
