In January 2008, Cheryl McKerrow opened CareMinders Home Care to service all of Knox County. Cheryl, a registered nurse with extensive experience in hospital and nursing home settings, is the sole proprietor. Her fourteen years working within the medical field illuminated that often "medical care is not patient centered but budget centered." It became her ambition to branch out independently and offer a standard of care that surpassed even the highest ideals she adhered to. CareMinders care-givers are all first-aid and CPR certified. She also has several certified nursing assistants available. They are required to have drug and alcohol checks which many facilities do not do. CareMinders offers services that make "your comfort their responsibility." The list of non-medical services is as long as you can make it. Companionship and conversation care for pets and plants, grocery shopping, ironing, laundry, bed making, prescription pick-up, errand services, transportation to appointments, walking and exercise or even planting a beautiful flower bed! Three years to one hundred plus, CareMinders has the specific care-giver needed to enhance one's quality of life. "Homecare" can be arranged without a physician's order. It differs from "home health care" in that care-givers do not provide nursing care. CareMinders assists with activities of daily living; eating, bathing and providing medical reminders. They are all professionally trained as care-givers responsible for maintaining a safe environment for their client. Continuing education is mandatory with monthly training sessions held and managed by a registered nurse. Insured, bonded and cleared from any traffic violations, these professionals are closely monitored. Cheryl does a monthly supervisory visit in each patient's home with the care-giver present (observes work), and absent (consults with client) on care-givers work ethic and attitude. Her goal is "the patient's satisfaction exceeds all their expectations." She has a 100% satisfaction rating as of April 2008! Cheryl does a complete "care plan" prior to placing a care-giver in a home. This care plan is given to the patient's doctor(s). She asks for their view on the plan and any suggestions they have for the betterment of the patient, thus all the medical and non-medical entities work in tandem to ensure the patient's progress is positive. Homecare givers can be the ears and eyes to the physicians before problems become serious. Cheryl provides 24/7 service. She does not own an answering machine! All calls are routed directly and immediately to her regardless of the time, day or night. Her care-givers can stay a day, week or however long necessary. Respite care is important for family caregivers who often juggle multiple responsibilities. The pressure often leads to burnout... detrimental to all involved. If it is a sports injury, one day surgery, oral plastic or cataract surgery, Cheryl can arrange to take you, wait, get your meds and get you home. If you need a "tuckin" or overnight care, CareMinders can accommodate you. They enable patients of all ages with varying degrees of need or disability to approximate normal lives in their own homes. Call Cheryl anytime at (865) 531-6355. CareMinders truly care.
