2008-05-drive-01.jpgWhile teenagers dream about getting their driver's license and the "freedom" of the open road, most parents have nightmares about their teens getting their driver's license. Many of us have sat white knuckled and wild eyed over in the passenger seat as we try to patiently go through the process of teaching a teen to learn how to drive. Yet, this type of stress is nothing compared to how it feels when you watch your teens drive away alone. Did you teach them everything they should know? Was every possible scenario given to them? Are they prepared?

At last, there is a place to turn to for the answers. Drive 4 Life Academy located on Papermill Drive in Knoxville, is where new and experienced drivers can go to learn all there is to know about the driving experience.

Drive 4 Life Academy's owners, Greg and Jodie Mangan, have been driving enthusiasts for many years, participating in Sports Car Club of America events including Road Rallies and Solo II racing. In Greg's younger days, drag racing cars and motorcycles also helped make him understand the importance of proper car preparation and handling.

The Mangan's drive for starting Drive 4 Life Academy was a series of articles in Autoweek magazine that highlighted the alarming teen driving statistics. After reading the articles over and over, Greg and Jodie felt "called" to open a driving school that would help give the necessary instruction to young drivers that will help them have a long, safe driving career. While some programs exist only to provide a certificate that will get parents an insurance discount, the Drive 4 Life curriculum is tailored to provide all the tools that a young driver needs to make it safely through the critical first five years of driving.

Beginning with classroom training, students will learn the many factors that come into play when operating a vehicle and develop good habits before they start bad habits. Drive 4 Life closely follows the AAA How to Drive and AAA Driver Improvement Programs and enhances these programs through additional classroom projects and homework assignments. The academy's vision is to keep young drivers safe and accident free during the critical first five years of driving. This vision is accomplished through the use of classroom sessions, parking lot exercises and actual "behind the wheel" instruction with an instructor certified by AAA to teach the AAA Driver Improvement Program.

In addition to teaching new drivers, Drive 4 Life also offers a State of Tennessee approved 8 hour Driver Improvement Course for drivers that wish to reduce the number of points against their license, or who have been instructed to take the course by the Tennessee Department of Safety.

Greg and Jodie invite drivers and/or their parents to call and make an appointment to visit the school. To schedule a class, or to learn more about Drive 4 Life, call 865-470-4122.
